Choose your license

For the first 7 days, yes: everyone starts with a free trial. After that, Jolt needs an active license. Pay monthly, or buy the lifetime license once.

No. Your license key appears right after payment. Paste it in Jolt under Settings → General → License.

The lifetime license activates Jolt on 1 Mac. The monthly plan activates Jolt on up to 3 Macs.

A Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later.

macOS tells Jolt each time another app comes to the front. Jolt then reads the menu bar of that app through Accessibility, the same way a screen reader does. When you open the panel, the commands of that app are already there, and the panel takes the color of its icon.

Almost every command in its menu bar. Jolt reads each menu and its submenus, with the menu path and the keyboard shortcut. It works in any app with a menu bar, with no plugin and no setup for the app. Jolt leaves out the Apple menu, the Services menu, and items that are greyed out at that moment.

Jev only picks the command that fits your words. Jolt then presses that menu item through Accessibility, as if you clicked it. No menu opens on screen, and no script is written.

Your query and a list of names: the menu items of the app in front, or your apps, settings panes, and actions. They go through the Jolt backend to Jev, a model from TypeSafe. Jev picks one name, and ordinary code on your Mac runs it. A query of one or two words that is the start of a name never leaves your Mac, and neither does a query shorter than three characters.

No, and it never asks for it. Jolt searches only the folders in Settings → Privacy → Search folders. The list starts with Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, and Pictures. You can add and remove folders at any time, and macOS asks you before Jolt reads a protected folder.

No. File search matches filenames on your Mac first. With “Find files with Jev” on, Jev gets filenames and folder names, never the contents. Sizes and dates stay on your Mac. Turn the switch off, and files are found by name only, with no request.

No. “Hide what your menus list” is on by default. A menu title that is a filename or an address stays on your Mac, and so does everything under History, Bookmarks, Open Recent, Recently Closed, and Window. Jolt still finds these items by name. Jev sees only the commands.

Accessibility, to read the menus of the app in front and press the item you choose. The first time you run an action of an app, macOS asks whether Jolt may control that app. macOS also asks before Jolt reads a protected folder. Jolt never asks for Full Disk Access.

No. Jolt writes no query to disk and logs none, and the backend logs no queries. Jolt stores only how often you run each command, to put your favorites first. You can turn that off and clear it under Settings → Privacy.
